 ### **Exciting Career Opportunity: Animal Health Epidemiologist / Data Scientist at the University of Liverpool**

### **About the Project**  

The **VetCLIN AMR** project focuses on **antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance in companion animals**—a critical yet underrepresented area in veterinary medicine. While most AMR surveillance has historically targeted food-producing animals, companion animals also contribute to the **One Health AMR landscape**, presenting risks of inter-species transmission.  

This role collaborates with **private veterinary microbiology laboratories across the UK**, working towards the **harmonization of methodologies** for bacterial culture, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and AMR screening. These efforts will align UK AMR surveillance with standards set by the **European AMR Surveillance Network in veterinary medicine (EARS-Vet)**.  

### **Key Responsibilities**  

✔️ Conduct and support research related to AMR surveillance in **clinical infections from companion animals**  

✔️ Collaborate with **veterinary microbiology laboratories** to collect and analyze data  

✔️ Harmonize **laboratory methodologies** to improve surveillance approaches  

✔️ Utilize **advanced R programming** skills for data analysis and reporting  

### **Who Can Apply?**  

🔹 **Education Requirement:**  

   - **Grade 7:** Doctoral (or near completion) or Master’s degree in relevant fields  

   - **Grade 6:** BSc or equivalent experience  

🔹 **Relevant Backgrounds:**  

   - **Health data sciences / informatics**  

   - **Applied/medical statistics**  

   - **Computer science**  

   - **Quantitative epidemiology**  

   - **Animal-related fields** (e.g., veterinary science, bio veterinary science, veterinary nursing)  

🔹 **Additional Requirements:**  

   - Advanced **R programming skills** (especially for postdoctoral applicants)  

   - Strong **communication abilities** across diverse academic backgrounds  

   - A deep **interest in animal health and epidemiology**  

### **Job Details**  

📍 Location: **Leahurst campus, University of Liverpool (Wirral)** *(remote working may be possible)*  

⏳ Contract: **Full-time (with flexibility for part-time at 0.8FTE)**  

🗓 Duration: **Fixed-term contract (1 August - 30 September 2025)** *(potential extension until 31 March 2026)*  

💰 Salary: **£33,482 - £45,413 per annum**
